What should a shared-building inquiry include?
Name the unit where the symptom is visible and say whether you know which supply or meter serves it. Then identify who can coordinate access. Water seen in one room is not permission to inspect another unit or alter a shared line.
Specify north or south and the full address
North and South Hutchinson Island inquiries need the actual street and unit, rather than just the island name. St. Lucie County publishes a North Hutchinson Island water-quality report, while FPUA maintains its own water service information. Verify the supplier on the account for the property; neither source establishes every island address.

Describe the building arrangement you know
Tell us whether the affected space is a detached home, a condo unit, an apartment or a common area. Do not assume a shared meter or a common pipe based on the building’s appearance. If a manager holds drawings or access keys, identify that contact early.
For a visible ceiling stain, report the exact room and when it appeared. For a bill change, establish whether the statement is for one unit or more than one. These are different questions even if they occur in the same building.
Arrange access without widening permission
Ask management what notification and entry arrangements apply before an inspection. Permission to enter your unit may not cover a locked service room, adjacent unit or common-property opening. Get separate approval for testing, a water shutoff and repair work.
If a proposed visit depends on access that is unavailable, resolve that before the appointment. Have the scope state which spaces could not be checked, rather than allowing an incomplete inspection to be described as a whole-building result.
Choose a specific starting point
The pages below cover a ceiling concern involving another unit, a proposed floor opening, an outdoor line in common space and a shared water-bill question. They are conditional situations to help prepare an inquiry, not claims that all island properties have these arrangements.
